Let Lapolice Debate

WIBW News announced that Republican nominee for the Big 1st congressional district Roger Marshall will not have to participate in a debate with his only opponent Alan Lapolice at the Kansas State Fair. Lapolice previously ran as a Republican in the 2014 primary against Tim Huelskamp and received 45% of the vote, he is now running as an Independent. Lapolice submitted over 8,000 signatures to the Secretary of State's office to get his name on the ballot for the general election. WIBW News says Lapolice does not meet the qualifications to debate, despite receiving 45% of the vote in the 2014 primary against Tim Huelskamp, in addition to turning in nearly twice the number of signatures required for an Independent to get on the ballot in November.

Roger Marshall's recent primary win over Tim Huelskamp has been criticized for the big spending from outside DC groups like the US Chamber of Commerce, End Spending Now PAC, Club for Growth, and help from other Washington insiders like former House Speaker John Boehner himself.

When Washington comes to Kansas they bring their corrupt rule-rigging and obstruction with them. Sign the petition to tell WIBW News to stop playing Washington games and allow Alan Lapolice to debate his general election opponent Roger Marshall at the Kansas State Fair.

There weren’t elections in ‘13 & ,15. So of course there weren’t any debates those yrs. Republicans are scared that they will loose the seat and Marshall will follow party line which is what they want. This follows along their habit of voter suppression but instead won’t let us observe our choices. Give us an honest opportunity to make that choice ourselves. Oh yeh, that’s what you’re (Republicans and WIBW) scared of to begin with, that we can think for ourselves.

If voters feel strongly enough to sign a petition to get him on the ballot as an Independent (in the state of Kansas!), then I would like to see him in a debate with any other candidate on the ballot. This is still a Democracy isn’t it. How can people have a right to choose if their basic opportunity to hear the candidates debate is blocked? No matter who you plan on voting for, what party you belong to, the people have spoken that they want to hear what Alan has to say.

There is no reason to not let Laolice debate unless Marshall is afraid to debate him. Alan will put him in the dust.

Every candidate for the office should be invited, encouraged and willing to engage in civil public discussion ….. wherever and whenever the opportunity appears before the 2016 General. Election. The State Fair is a perfect venue!
